What Is In My Name!!

July 10th, 2007

my-name-lydia.jpg

Hey there everybody. Well my name Lydia comes from the Greek meaning woman from Lydia which is an area from Asia minor and this is how you would pronounce it (LID ee ah). My last name is Portillo but I’m not sure what it exactly means because it’s such a rare last name that finding the meaning was very difficult. All I know is that in Spanish it means an opening and or a gate. This is how you pronounce it (Por ti llo).Well enough about the dictionary meaning of my name. For me Lydia Portillo means lots of different things as you can tell by my montage. For starters I have a pink Lilly in the background because all my family members call me Lilly. It’s my nickname. Another reason why I have it there is because i’m growing as a person and blossoming into a young lady. Also I have a picture of a Mexican flag in the top right corner because both of my parents are Mexican which means that I’m Mexican too. Next to the flag there is a UC Berkeley logo because that is one of the colleges I would love to attended and hopefully get my master degree in architecture and I would love to be the first cousin to graduate from a university. I have a picture of a pointe shoe and a ballet dancer because dancing classical ballet is my passion since I was nine years old and i still love to dance!! It helps me to express myself when words can’t. On the bottom there is the word unique because for one my whole name is very rare and I have only meet two people with it my grandmother who I was named after and my friends mom. As to my last name I have only meet one person with it. But no matter what I love having this rare name because i love being different. On the bottom left corner there is a picture of the lady guadalupe representing that I’m a catholic. Last but not least there is a picture of my two little sisters Isabel and Monica which i adore so much and this represents that for me family is the most important thing in the world no matter what!!

I truly believe that this montage really represents me even if my name wasn’t on it. With a name you can only image how the person is going to be like but with this visual it tells way more about me than a dictionary would have said!!

My Avatar & Me

July 5th, 2007

avitar-n-me.jpg

Wow, on Tuesday July the third in technology class I got the opportunity to  make an avatar resemble me in the online game Second Life. I was super excited to see if I could really make it look just like me in just an hour. I decided to begin editing the facial definition first. Since my face has numerous details that I would have to perfect it to make it similar to that of mine. As I finished with the facial detail ,I moved on to fixing the pigment of my skin. Believing this section would be a piece of cake, I found it to be harder than that of editing the facial detail because I couldn’t find my skin tone. Either it would be to light or to dark to that of my skin tone. But the attribute that I found to be the easiest was the hair because it didn’t have too many details that you would have to worry about. I approximately modified about fifty of my avatar’s attributes. I believe the one thing that would have fully helped to replicate my avatars appearance to that of mine is if I brought a picture of myself as I was doing the assignment so I at least had something to refer during this process. Well sadly enough I think that it doesn’t look at all like me or  someone  I know! Well you should take the challenge and see if you can make an avatar look just like you!!

My Community…

July 3rd, 2007

my-community1.pngYou are probaly asking yourself why did she choose these pictures to represent her community? Well when I think about San Jose these pictures remind me of it. For instance the picture of the San Jose Sharks which  is  our hockey team, comes to my mind because not only am I a really big fan but I know lots of other people who are also big fans of them. Another picture that I added was of the HP Pavilion which is were the San Jose Sharks, and Saber cats have their games. Also that is were all the concerts are mainly held at especially the Boo Bomb. Furthermore, I added a picture of Santa Teresa High School which I’m really proud to attened and, of course, San jose State which is the university that we’re most known for. Last but not least you might be asking yourself why did she put a Starbucks if they are one in every corner. The reason for this is since the definiton of communtiy is a locality inhabited by such a group, it reminds me of when my friends and I would hang out every single day at starbucks after school. So now you know how each picture remind me of my community in San Jose.

Assignment #1: The Media and Me

June 27th, 2007

The media has a great influence in every one’s life including mine.  Like Noel Youhannes who is also taking the Technology class said, “Media is everywhere”.  Which is so true because every corner you turn to you are surrounded by it.  I’ve been surrounded by media since I was a little girl in diapers and even still to this day. I can’t remember a day when I never been around it. I’m more familiar with interactive media because I ‘m always on myspace , photobucket, i-tunesyahoo…etc. Another type of media I’m also familiar with is audio because I love to watch television especially MTVThe  Oakland Raiders when it’s football season, and movies like Finding Nemo.  The media that I believe will be able to create change in the world is interactive media because thousands of people are on the Internet daily browsing the web. So knowing this I can make a website to educate people in ways to stop global warming or ways to help our fellow soldiers in Iraq. It’s a great and a easy way to get your message across to the public.  Hopefully by using this tactic you will be able to see some changes!!!
