I am very fortunate to have my name because it is very unique and interesting. My last name “Goussen” has both French and English roots. Even though I can’t find out its meaning, I have discovered the meaning for my middle name “Alexander”. The meaning of this name is savior of mankind. I discovered the meaning to my name four years ago on a trip to Hawaii, where my family and I were on a bus on our way to a Louau. After having a conversation with one of our tour guides, he was the one that told me the meaning of my middle name. Ever since I have been very proud of my middle name, not willing to replace it with any other. Even though I haven’t met a person that is not part of my family with my same last name, I have found many whose names are pronounced similarly but spelled differently.

I created this collage to show everything that my name represents. I chose to have a beautiful island as a background because I love to travel to fun and exotic places. On the top and bottom right corners of my collage, I have the university of California at Berkeley and Stanford because these are my top two universities that I wish to attend. They can also represent my interest in learning and enhancing my knowledge (education). In the middle, I have a picture of the Nicaraguan flag because it represents my heritage. This is also a very important and significant place because it is somewhere that I have traveled to every year, experiencing fun and adventure with my family. To the left of this flag there is a picture of two lions which represent my zodiac sign which is Leo. I consider this an important part of my life. Since I have love and passion for sports, I placed a picture illustrating many sports in the bottom left corner. This also represents my great involvement in sports such as swimming, baseball and football. On the top left corner of my collage, there are two pictures which show my future. They both represent the goals that I have in life which is to be successful, traveling all over the world and living life at its fullest. I hope you have enjoyed my collage!

Creating my avatar was a fun and interesting experience. The avatar’s initial appearance did appearance did not resemble my physical characteristics. When I began editing its appearance, I first started with its face, and from there I moved down the body. The reason that I did it this way was because by doing this first, everything else would fall into place (clothes). The thing that was easiest to replicate was the avatar’s color choices (in general) because it was what had more options. On the other hand, the hair and face were the most difficult. The hair was hard to replicate because it didn’t let you have short hair like a buzz cut. In addition, the face was also difficult to replicate because in the end I couldn’t really make it look like mine. After finishing these two body parts I also had to do the rest. The attributes that I modified for my avatar were the face, hair, body, and its clothes (accessories). To fully replicate my avatar’s appearance there would need to be more choices for one to pick from. If this were to happen, it would be easier to edit the avatar so that it closely resembled me. My avatar’s appearance reminds me of myself because of its skin tone and clothes that it has on, which is similar to mine.

Al l of the items that I selected represent my community, the Oakland Bay Area. They also represent the things that I enjoy most about my community. A community is a place where people live and interact. Our blog is like a community because everyone can interact with each other by posting comments or blogs. All of the work that I have been doing in Technology (creating pictures using photoshop) has helped bring the SMASH community closer because it has made them interact more. Hopefully as the program goes on, we will all be joined closer together by Tech and its cool assignments.

Media is something that has been part of my life since a very young age. Ever since a young child I have been interested in media. This has stuck with me to this day. My favorite kind of media is music because it is a beautiful form of art that inspires me and makes me feel good. The main reason that I am so interested in music is because it is the thing that I am most exposed to besides advertisement. I constantly listen to music in my iPod, the radio, and other common places that I attend. This is also another main reason that I am so attracted to it.

Since music comes in different types and is something that is heard everywhere, it tends to stick to people. It attracts to people, so as a result they tend to enjoy it more overtime as they get more into it. Because people enjoy music so much, it is an affective way to convey a message. This can result in change if many people like and support the message that the music is expressing. This can especially occur if the type of music (song) attracts many people. It is also something that brings people together because they might share a certain taste in the type of music.

Music is a form of media that will be around forever. It is an excellent way to escape and enjoy yourself. There are many types of music throughout the world, you just have to choose the one that is right for you.
