Hello everyone! My name is La'Vonnda Haynes, I'm a 2nd year scholar in SMASH Academy and I attend school in the Bay Area. I was born on September 11th which makes me unique in a different aspect. I view the day of my birth as a tragedy, but also as a blessing that occured on that day as well; the day a person was introduced in the world who would induce change. I am a very motivated student that loves to overachieve. I am very active in the church community. One would say that I am the ultimate Church Girl. I am incredibly interested in Math and Neuroscience, but I can't ever shy away from my love of the performing arts being involved with the violin for 9 years and dance for almost all my life. I wanted to take Technology because I felt as though there was so much for me to learn that would further my advancement in the future fields I may want to pursue. Feel free to comment and leave words of encouragement on my way to success.

Me and My Daddy

July 30th, 2007

                                                                                                                                                     me-and-daddy.JPG

This is a montage that I created of me and my father. It shows how close we are and how close we have become over the years. I thought it would be funny to put some pictures from when I was younger on there as well just show the growth in our relationship. I love my daddy and I wouldn’t trade him in for anyone else in the world! He has been a true blessing in my life and it is a true blessing that he has been apart of my life!

The Finished Montage!

July 26th, 2007

montage-edited.jpg

This is my updated montage. To perfect the montage I felt as though it would look better if I were to smooth the edges of the smaller pitures so they would blend in more with the background. On the previous montage was unsure of how to do this so I thought it would be good to go back and show what I had learned. I still have a long way to go to really make it as well as I believe it can be, but that’s what SMASH is all about and I’m willing to go further. II. What are Logarithms

  • what logs are
  • what they are related to (

exponents, etc.)

  • base ten
  • what logs do

III. What can you do with Logarithms work

  • putting them into the calculator

IV. How are they related to exponents

  • how to put them into exponential form
  • equations that help to put into the form

V. Conclusion: So why do you need to know this?

  • helping in graphing situations in business

3600 Seconds on Second Life

July 8th, 2007

lavonndas-avatar_001.jpg

This is the avatar that I created on Second Life. It was a very interesting experience considering it was my first time going on the program. The goal of the exercise was to make an avatar that resembled ourselves. Most of the class wasn’t so successful, but we had a lot of fun doing it. Some of the things that made it hard was not having access to our certain features and having the features change too drastically. From this I realized that a lot of the programs such as Second Life base their programs on their overall audience and don’t take into consideration that features vary from culture to culture. I would love to bring this to the attention of the executives of Second Life.

This is ME: a montage

July 5th, 2007

montage-copy.jpgmontage-2-copy.jpg

These images are a total representation of myself. The top montage displays my overall interests and morals that I live by everyday. The pictures represent my love of the violin, stem fields, and my strong devotion to religion. When I found myself analyzing my name I remembered that I had been always told that my name was somehow related to the lavender flower. This would mean that my name was closely associated with the French language, which makes sense because my family originated in Louisiana on my mother’s side. My parents and my grandparents have a special significance for why they are in the montage. For one they all contributed to the construction of my name and they are the reason for understanding where I came from, and why I should push myself so hard in everything I do. The second montage shows how much I am in love with dance and the performing arts in general. For this I received the most dedicated award for dance at my school. I believe I represent the few that are serious about being a vital part of the community and an example to others who have not yet found their place in the confusion of our world. I feel that if all I can do is guide one person to the right direction my blessings will overflow.

Media and Me

June 27th, 2007

Hello all!

There is definitely not enough space in this profile to tell you all the ways that media has effected my life. Ever since I was younger media has had a strong impact in my life. In my parent’s room Barney was my coolest thing that that I had ever seen. I couldn’t get away from the television, mesmerized by the images of the purple dinosaur. Now that I am older I have found myself to have my life surrounded by media. I use yahoo constantly to email my family, friends, and teachers about anything. My school site helps me tremendously with allowing me to look up grades and my progress and that’s the only way that I am able to further my way into media. Besides school, my interests are also involved with media. I am in love with performing arts. When it comes to dance, I can’t get away. Every time I even hear a little bit of music, I have to think about choreographing. I’m in my school orchestra so maintaining a good violin is important. I constantly I am on the internet including ebay looking for violins. There’s so much research that goes along with being in school and google is my way of doing so. I have done a little bit of modeling and mentoring on the side with some programs such as Church Gurl and Cinnamon Girl which have helped me to be the leader that I am. I’ve recently been exposed to the technology course at SMASH Academy and I can’t believe I waited so long to get involved. I’ve only been through one class so far and it’s already become an unbelievable experience with the things that I have learned. I am expecting to learn much more as I continue the class.
