Why I chose this class? The reason I chose this class was to educate myself in the different areas of media.I love making flip books and really want to create animation on the computer. I hope to have a better understanding of the media, particularly Entertainment.

Text Talk

July 26th, 2007

I chose to refine my flash animation because I love flash and wanted to experiment some more on it. I may even keep on adding to it because I want to have more stick animation and maybe even talking. It’s hard for me particularly because I have trouble with the computer. I loved making several tween motions go on within one frame because it made the end product all the more fun. Motion within a motion tween was sometimes tedious too. I hope to add or improve on my motion tween and possibly have more go on within one frame. In order to improve more on my flash project I added a typewriter effect so the words weren’t just there, they are typed on as you watch. I’m still looking forward to more improvements on it so I can’t say that I am completely done with it. I still would like the backgrounds to be different for each slide or possibly more animation. Through my project I hope to help anyone who is bored reading a book. With my flash project I hope they can feel comfortable to read a novel and have fun writing in the book.

Talking to the text: outline

Intro: What is talking to the text? Writing to the text is actively reading the text of your choice.

Body: How do I talk to the text? If you have a writing utensil and text of your choice (book, magazine, newspaper, etc….) then it’s just a matter of writing in the text. Talking to the text is writing your thoughts and feelings into the text. Circling what pops out, highlighting what might be important to you, or even making visuals in the text. It’s whatever you put into it.

Why is talking to the text important? Talking to the text enables you to get a deeper connection with the writing. You are expressing your inner thoughts onto paper so for later reference you can look back on it. It helps as a tool to analyze and question the authors writing tools (diction, simile, metaphor, etc…). It’s like a big piece of steak that you can just eat all up. You don’t just stare at the steak all day and leave, you eat it and enjoy it or hate it. It’s however you feel!

Conclusion: Areas where talking to the text can help in life. If you need to write an essay but forgot the contents, you can just flip through the book and see what you wrote or were thinking at that time. You never know, you might just disagree with what you wrote earlier. It’s a great note taking skill that is great to do in school!

My name is, well, obviously Joseph De La Riva. I have it graffiti in the bottom left hand corner because I really like art and thought I would express myself in art by having it graffiti. Adding to the art theme I have a picture of Bob Marley because he is inspirational to me in an artistic perspective. His music is chilled out and calm, like me.

When people hear my name “Joseph” they think of Saint Joseph. Joseph was the virgin Marry’s husband when she had Jesus. Joseph is Jesus’ step father, I believe? I have a picture of Saint Joseph in the top right hand corner. Joseph is a really popular name.(thinking to myself)

My zodiacs sign a Taurus so I have a real big picture of a Taurus as my background. A big yet little part of my family is my Mom and step dad. I have a picture of them in the bottom left hand corner. I love them both very much! Especially my Mom and I, we’ve gone through so much together, just the two of us. For awhile my Mom didn’t have anyone in her life and it was just us. She found a really good guy and unfortunately for me she moved out to Stockton. She wanted me to go with her but she knew how much I wanted to finish out school in San Jose so she let me stay. She loves San Jose a lot because we both were born and raised there. So I have a picture of a shark right above my name, of course in an art form.

Avatar

July 5th, 2007

snapshot2-for-web.jpgMy avatar looked horrible compared to me. he was plain and I added my good looks to him. Of course I’m kidding, the only attribute he had of mine was the skin color.I first began editing the face because that’s what it started me out with. It wasn’t easy to get my good looks in but I managed. Just kidding , again. But really I would have to say that the overall structure of the head was difficult for me because I never knew that there was so much to it. Some ways I made the head look flat or huge and, of course, like an egg head.It took me the longest to replicate but on the other hand, my nose was easiest. I feel like my nose was easy because it is distinctively round. I think so. I was most pleased with that above all. In the end I edited pretty much all that was offered to me to edit because I wanted to play around with it and have fun. It was fun and funny to see the different attributes an avatar could have. If I wanted the avatar to look remotely as good as I do ( gotta have a good self-esteem if you know what I mean) I would take a 3-d graph picture of my head and apply it to the avatar. Kinda like game producers do. With the avatar’s hair adjustment I thought he looked like the dark spiderman version of Tobey Maguire. NO LIE, dark hair, bangs, and all.

My Media

June 28th, 2007

I’m a very big movie person and find myself watching them frequently. I also find myself listening to music like Eminem, The Temptations, Kane Westy, Linkin Park, etc… I listen to a wide variety of music as you can tell. I love to draw to and look at drawings on Deviant art. It’s amazing to see the different styles of art and the different techniques everyone uses. Now that I think about it, I find myself surrounded by visual and audio media all the time.

One real big impact of media that I can remember is when I first seen The Matrix. It was, from what I can remember, my first contact with media and one of my favorite moviesh of all times. The graphics are original and intense. I still remember seeing Trinity jump up in mid-air, stop, and kick the police officer in the chest. It was sooo cool! Speaking of great Action, I remember seeing Spiderman (all of them) and the cool web-slinging action. Those movies really inspired me into the moving images part of media. These were very effective parts of media because they showed the versatility of imagery in the motion pictures busines. They were also big blockbuster hits. This shows how effective visual media is for all the world to see.

Another great blockbuster hit with intense imagery and a great meaning was The Day After Tommorrow. It was a great way to get the message across about our world and the dangers of global warming. If huge tidal waves, large tornadoes, and hail the size of boulders isn’t a good enough hint about the dangers of global warming then I don’t know what is. Everyone loves movies, well at least I sure do, and they are great ways to induce change in our world. They are translated in many different languages which demonstrates the ability for a movie to affect everyone. I love movies and the motion pictures part of media influences me the most.
