Assignment #5
July 26th, 2007
For my last assignment, I will work on my “What’s in a Name” montage, because it has everything about me and the place where my family came from, such as Spain. I also showed some pictures of where I was born and where my parents grew up in. I also would like to add where my grandmother (R.I.P Soledad Cervantes Lopez) lived in, before leaving me last week. Even though she left me, she will always be in my heart.

HOW TO MAKE A MONTAGE
I. A montage….what is a montage, what can you learn from a montage, and how
do you make a montage?
II. What is a montage? A montage is almost like a collage; except you don’t get glue on your fingers and that the collage is on the computer.
III. What can you learn from a montage? You can do many things with a montage, like put things to demonstrate your thought and even tell a story. They’re also can be seen as a collage.
IV. How do you make a montage? There are many different things that you have to learn when you do a montage, such as cutting, pasting, erasing, text, scaling, and even fadedness.
V. This is how a montage is meant, shown, and made.

What’s in a Name
July 8th, 2007
My last name is Del Toro (from my dad’s side), which means, “One from bull,” which gave me the idea of placing a bull in my montage. My family has and is currently living in a city called, Tamazula in Jalisco, Mexico. In the middle left, I’ve pasted a picture of Tamazula. My ancestors were Aztecs that made their way to Tamazula, and it’s the place where I was born. Since I’m a descendant of Aztecs, I place the Aztec Calendar as my background. The history of my grandparents from my father’s side is still unclear because I haven’t seen them seen them since I was a baby, they still reside in Tamazula. My other last name is Cervantes (from my mom’s side) which comes from Spain. The reason that I also carry my mom’s last name, unlike others, is because in Mexico, people include both their father’s and mother’s last name. I’m part Spanish, because my great grandparents (mother’s side) was born in Granada, Spain. The picture of Granada is on the bottom left. They later flew to Jamay, Jalisco in Mexico where they gave birth to my grandfather. His name was Juan Cervantes and in Jamay, he married my grandmother, Soledad Lopez. I put a picture of Jamay in the middle right of my montage. Not many carry the name Del Toro, but many people do carry the name of Cervantes.
My first name, Juan, is very common. “Juan” means, God is Gracious, which gave me an idea of placing a picture of Juan Diego in my montage. Juan Diego was the first person to see and meet the Virgin of Guadeloupe. The name “Juan” is common throughout Mexico, especially in my family. In my dad’s side, two of my uncles and one of my cousins are named Juan. In my mom’s side, my grandfather, many of my cousins, and one of my uncles carry the name, “Juan.” My middle name, “Salvador” is translated as savior. Savior gave me an idea of putting superman in my montage, because superman rescues people. Not many in my family carry the name, “Salvador,” but my great uncle. His name is Salvador Magana. My name in total meant, “God is Gracious to a Savior, who is from a Bull in Spain and in Mexico”
