The A

July 27th, 2007

I deserve to get an A in the class because I contributed a great deal into the completion of the document and I proposed many ideas that in a way helped shape the document.

My role in the process was very interesting, I volunteered to become the leader of the technical Department, this role helped me establish  organization and help my peers contribute to finish the document on time.

Some of the contributions I made into the Document were the creation of a city layout that represents the way the game may look like, It was out of my own time that I managed to completed and included into the document in time. I believe that visual is very important in order for the audience to have a visual of our idea in their minds, I think the environment along with the character can give the audience a glance of our intentions. As a leader for the tech department I had to complete the Game Mechanics chapter of the document. This is one of the most important pieces in the document because it explains the process and the actions in the game and how the game will be seen in a technical prospective. An example of my contribution was the bar system chart that explains the role that the different bars have on the character; this is really an important piece for the document because the bars will be very useful in the game. I also contributed on different topics such as the gym, the movement of the characters.

I work a decent amount of time on the document, the different classes made me unable to spend extra time in the document, but I managed to add anything necessary into the document, I was the first one to start the proofreading and addition of new segments that were posted by other members, this helped ease the traffic of going into the document too many times at once and accidentally erasing any work already done.

If I would have time to work more on the project, I think I would come up with more ideas for the game, I would produced more layouts for each section just like I did with the environment section.

I believe I performed best on the art work for the document although i was not part of the art department, I still contribute the ideas of making the the mall look like a pyramid and I added the ideas of the other art in the the city layout, such as Jann’s Gym and the Work Place.

I had a little problem adjusting to flash and Photoshop but at the end I overcame those obstacles.

All this reasons show why I deserve an A in the class

The TD in action

July 24th, 2007

The article on the traveler’s dilemma really showed me that large extent of greed that people can have. I really think that it can be impossible for the Lucy and Peter to reach an agreement regarding the price. Their geed strikes when they see the possibility of getting 101 instead of 100; the fact that they didn’t rationalize and both choose 100 shows how low people can go for money. I don’t think i would choose 2, if i was stuck with that decision i would try to maintain they highest amount and hope that the other person will choose the higher amount (101) or and average amount. If you think carefully you will see that choosing 100 dollars is better because even though the other person might choose 99 and you end up getting 98 that is still a higher price. I don’t think it matters if you loose 2 dollars or you win 1 dollar that is been too greedy, i mean is just a dollar.

Day’s Review

July 17th, 2007

Today’s session was very interesting and intriguing, the group continued on upgrading the design document and discussing their views on the different topics in part 2. By next session we will be close to finish parts 3 and 4 and start giving the final touches to the document. As a group we decided to divide the sections evenly so that each individual works and contribute their ideas in a specific portion of the game. On the other hand we continue on our individual experiments using the Flash program; the class posted their work in progress at the end of class. The class also had a chance to experience Game Theory in action in two different scenarios involving money and trust, the class got to analyze the behavior of the volunteers for the two examples.

Our gaming takeoff

July 3rd, 2007

Today we learned the essence of gaming and some of the necessary skills that are crucial to a great gaming experience. As Simon started class with the Robodonut warm up, he introduced us to the most important part which was how to control the characters of a game. Simon as Robodonut was forced to be under our command and only moving if a certain button was pressed. The class had to create directional buttons and movement buttons in order to accomplished the goal of retrieving the donut boxes. After that ideology had been set, we proceeded to our lesson on if then commands and how to apply it to our Pacman experiment. The beginning was crucial, we needed to set the position of the Pacman and from there enter the coding for it to move up down left and right . As we continued learning he started teaching us how to turn the Pacman around and this lesson allowed us to enter and explore the foundations of the many games that had entertain us since we have been little.

peace maker review

June 26th, 2007

The interactive game Peace Maker is an interesting development in order to inform the community about the current issues of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict taking place at the moment, the use of live videos during the day’s report gives the player a deep insight for that city. The goal of the game is to promote peace in the middle east. By creating a game, the developers are trying to persuade organizations to take action on the conflict.

The game simulates the life of either a Palestinian or an Israeli leader, once chosen, the player is in charge addressing the nation and become the voice of the the country against the opposite nation and in international affairs. The player is in charge of military facilities, create speeches to promote peace, maintain the well being of the citizenry and deal with sudden burst of revolts inside the nation. As a leader, the player has to carry out the militaristic, economic, and social events and endeavors that will benefit and eventually achieve peace before the other nation.

One thing i don’t agree is with the ideology of the game, the player is forced to compete for peace and i think those actions will not help the other nation at all, the opposite nation will see you as an opponent and will try to fight you in order for them to achieve peace.

Overall, the game graphics are very well developed, the audio can use a little upgrade, the game planning work very nice and the controlling helps the player to easily maneuver through the menu.
