Final Assignment: The Student’s Dilemma
July 24th, 2007
I’ve created a page with instructions for the final assignment — The Student’s Dilemma.
The goal of this “game” is to pitch your desired final grade to your Instructors, and justify that grade with specific references to the Game Design Document and the process blog.
In writing your argument, you must also use Game Theory to explain why you chose to propose the grade that you did.
The instructions for the assignment should be pretty self-explanatory, but PLEASE be sure to post any questions about the assignment to the blog.

Game status
July 19th, 2007
As the weeks pass by we began to think this game would never start in the technical part of the production but some of us have taken the step forward and began doing the art and technical fields for this week. I on the other hand am working on the status menu and how the statistics are measure base on the information taken from the player’s actions. So far I’ve been having some issue if i should describe this function as some algebraic equation. I’m currently working on the menu so I’m not close to being done with the work I’m suppose to but I hope other’s blogs or comments can inspire me to come up with some solution.
Stressed out?
July 18th, 2007
Today has been a long day for many of us. A lot of stuff goes on on our world this days; however we work towards our goals as efficiently as we can. I want to acknowledge every Tech II student who has chosen to use their time wisely by being in TECH. Trust me, everyone is proud of the level of maturity and the level of quality that we have shown.
For the first time this year i attended a TECH tutorial session at LeConte. To be honest, it was probably the most helpful tutorial session so far. If everyone could attend, I encourage you to try and walk a couple of meters towards learning. I learned a lot!
First I learned how to create a HitBox more efficiently. Then Simon walked me through the process of making my HitBox run away from my symbol. I learned that you can have conditional statements within conditional statements. Also, that computers run this tests by asking themselves if a conditional statement is met, if not, they move on to the next one until one works. I learned how to make different frames so that when my symbol actually touches or approaches the HitBox it moves away from my symbol.
The best part of tutorial was that I had one on one talk time with Simon and Trevor so I could ask as many questions as I could without feeling dumb in the presence of smart people like Carlo and George (you guys are the best).
So, just as a reminder, please attend Tech tutorials, you’ll learn a lot.
Day’s Review
July 17th, 2007
Today’s session was very interesting and intriguing, the group continued on upgrading the design document and discussing their views on the different topics in part 2. By next session we will be close to finish parts 3 and 4 and start giving the final touches to the document. As a group we decided to divide the sections evenly so that each individual works and contribute their ideas in a specific portion of the game. On the other hand we continue on our individual experiments using the Flash program; the class posted their work in progress at the end of class. The class also had a chance to experience Game Theory in action in two different scenarios involving money and trust, the class got to analyze the behavior of the volunteers for the two examples.
Game Theory : Never Decline Free Money
July 17th, 2007
Today in class we had a lecture on game theory, which provides analytical tools for examining strategic interactions among 2 or more participants. Greg and I participated in an activity in which Greg was given ten dollars. He could decide to give me any amount, and we would get split it. On the other hand I could decide to decline it, and we would both gain nothing. I decided to decline it, which was a mistake, because the outcome was instead of us both getting free money, we both gained nothing.

Hey everyone,
This is Jose Avila. I am a 3rd year here at SMASH and I am looking forward to the creation of many experiments and one well run game. I don’t have much to say but have a good time playing our games, we want feedback and are looking to improve them as much as possible.
