Course Description

The Game Project will expose students to the world of video game design. Using this emerging interactive medium, students will learn how video games can communicate messages and raise awareness.

The game design process draws upon written communication skills, creative problem solving, and principles of computer science. Students will have an opportunity to work collaboratively on a project from conception to development— including concept pitching, project management, game theory, and the creation of a functional prototype. The process of creating a game will be a challenging experience, building upon the graphic design and programming skills introduced in Technology I.

A number of youth driven video games have addressed concerns such as social stratification, environmental awareness, and cultural injustice. These playful yet informative tools are called serious games. The class will choose a topic of particular interest and design a serious game.
