During the 5 week course, students have been designing a game from the ground up. So far, students have brainstormed, pitched their ideas, and are currently crafting a Game Design Document. The Game Doc serves as a blueprint for our game—detailing the story, art, interface and game play. To read about our game and see our progress, please visit The Design Document.

In addition to the group project, each student of The Game Project has been producing video game experiments. In-class lectures and tutorials have covered the concepts of variables, conditional statements, hit-detection and more. These programming principles are the building blocks of game development. With these tools, students have created introductory video game environments that include moving characters, music, animation, keyboard controls and hit-detection. The Game Project includes lectures and discussions covering a branch of mathematics known as Game Theory. By numerically analyzing the motivations of players and probabilities of certain outcomes, game theory can be used to dissect a Chess game as well as aid decision making in our daily lives. Some topics introduced include Risk Vs. Reward and The Prisoner’s Dilemma.
