Assignment One - Personal Profile & Statement: Media & Me

Talking about myself is not always easy. I have gone through ups and downs and I am finally learning to appreciate myself. Assignment one helped me realize how technology has affected me. I never thought about how technology has always been part of my life. Thanks to this assignemt I now appreciate technology and myself.

Assignment Two - Montage: What's In A Name?

Workin on montages was an experience i will never forget. Like many of the SMASH students, i had never used photoshop before this assignment. It did not take me a long time to learn the basics, and from there, to discover how to make my montage better on my own. I would say this project was the funnest so far because a chance to use pictures of our imagination and our creativity was given to us. We learned how to use Photoshop and we had fun like no other days.

Once i got myself started, i had trouble making decitions such as where to place my pictures or whether my montage needed more spice. My biggest challenge was to decide between my first and second montage. The first montage took me much longer than the second one. I worked hard to make it perfect. My second montage took me less time, I would say about 1/4 the time I took on the first one. Still, i think the second one represents my name and who I am as well as the first one does. I then decided to post them both since I did not want to decide between my creations.

Montage 1, The Beauty of Life

This piece represents who Iris is and what makes her who she is. The background of the pink beach is a photograph of the place i grew up in, Puerto Vallarta/Mascota, Mexico. This picture is very important because it expresses my past and how beautiful my life once was. Then, i have a picture of a rainbow, because it represents my name and the peace after the storm. My name is IRIS, and rainbow in spanish is ARCO-IRIS. I always dream and have big goals, that's the reason i added some stars to make sure my day dreaming is shown. If you know me, you know I love tennis, its my passion, but if you don't; a picture of a tennis ball from Roland Garros is in my montage to represent my desire to become a better tennist and my love for the sport itself. Music forms part of my everyday life. without music I would go crazy. Therefore, I added my favorite band's name, Senses Fail, and some music symbols. I think that everyone has a past, hence why you see lumber and ask yourself why there is lumber on my montage. Well, my Dad and Mom started a bussiness with their savings when they were younger. from that bussiness of millsaws is how I'm here today. I am not certain if it represents a good thing or bad thing, since my parents got divorce because of work problems, but I am certain that if a picture of something represents my past, a picture of a lumber yard or a millsaw explains it all. I have two half-brother, two half-sisters, and one sister. Although my half brothers and sister were never very caring, Nelly (my youngest half-sister) always cared for me and stood up for me. I owe her credit for being who I am today because she walked me through the begginning of my life and thought me how to be strong and brave. My montage includes a picture of Nelly, my youngest half-sister (23). Everyone I believe has a hero, a role model, or a person to look up to. For me, Sam is the person who I will always remember as the person who changed my life for better. When I moved to the United States from Mexico, he was my only friend. He helped me learn English and he helped me fit in where i obviously did not. Thanks to him, i dediceted my time to study and to help others. Thanks to him I succeded. Thanks to him I am now able to help others the way he helped me. I am happy to say he is my best friend. Every picture in this montage has a meaning, therefore, the whole montage means Iris, the person in me, the person I am.

Montage 2, A little past, a little present, a lot to come.

Assignment Three - Flash Presentation: What's In A Word?

THis assignement was extremly hard for me. At first i thought it would be less challenging since I had no trouble with the last one, but after Trevor finished explaining what we were supposed to do, I was dazzed. I had no idea where to start from and we didn't have a lot of time. THis assignment took me a huge amount of time to make since i didn't know how to use Flash. AFter a while, I gained some confidence from my peers and I finished the project.

Assignment Four - Flash Poll: "Mulit-Poll" Choices

I love this project. IT was not easy to make at all, but it was really interesting. Once again, this project did not take me as long as the one before. I had some experience in how to write the codes for the quiz, which helped me finish the project faster. Thanks to this project I feel a lot better about using Flash. The program is not hard to use, it's just a lottle complicated. This project is amaizing.
