Technology has always been an avid interest of mine. For one reason or another obtaining the technology that I want and being creative with it has always eluded me. Fortunately in the tenth grade I was able to take a computer technology class at a school called Oakland Tech. Though the class was not as exciting or informative as I had hoped it would be, it was a start you know? During my third year in SMASH I had the opportunity to take another comp tech class. The first time I heard about it I was a bit dubious. My experience for the past two years in my computer tech class at school had been a major disappointment and I was not sure if I wanted to go through it again. But for some reason whenever I encounter a new technological advance I feel like its Christmas all over again. I get all kiddy inside. The first thing I think is Whoa! How did they do it? I want to do something like this one day! I began to feel that since computer technology classes kept falling into my lap (for free nonetheless. Some of the training that I've received has cost other people a grip) it made me think God was saying "Here kid, this is for you. Take an advantage of it while you can!" And well, here I am.

Assignment One
- Personal Profile & Statement: Media & Me This assignment was not as simple as I thought it would be. It was not really what i would call complicated either, but spent a lot more time working on my personal statement and the links than I thought I would. It was the links that gave me the most problems. My instructors wanted me to come up with ten interesting links. I came up with ten links, but are they interesting? I cannot say. Click them and find out. |
Assignment Two - Montage: What's In A Name? |
| I knew as soon as I started this project that it would be great. I am not saying that it was easy. It took me days to find images that I thought represented me. It then took hours for me to arrange the images in a way that I liked. Let's not mention the technical diffuculties. I was using photoshop for the first time and finding out how to get the deired effect was more than frustrating. But I look back on my montage and i'm proud of it. i usually don't explain my art, but this time I'll amke an exception. The pyramids represent my fascination with Ancient Egypt. I've been reading about Ancient Egypt since the third grade and my interest on the subject has not waned. The buddha face represents my fascination with Buddhism. I became intersted in Buddhism when my stepmother brought me a three Buddhist rosaries. Lately I've just learned to meditate and the experince has been phenomenal. The man poring a jug of water represents my sun sign; aquarius. The crest represents my last name, and the picture of the slaves acknowledges my african heritage. The statue of David once represents my physical ideal. The two triangles represent my pride in my identity as a bisexual. |
| Assignment Three - Flash Presentation: What's In A Word? This has to be one of the craziest assignments I've ever done. When Trevor and Simon told us we had to do a presentation on the fifferent uses of a word my heart sank. I was thinking, what in the world was I going to do with a word? I was even more discouraged when I got the word 'justice' for the assignment. I spent hours thinking about what it was that I was going to do. And then, I had an excellent idea. I asked Trevor if I could change my word. He said I could, so I decided to do a presentation on the word 'gay' instead. As we all know, the word gay means someone who is happy, a homosexual man, and thses days it can also be used to describe something negatively. I thought that this would be the best word for me because it had so many different uses, which is what the presentation was to focus onl. it also helped that this word is part of my identity. I learned a lot more making this presentation than I had predicted, and when I finished this project I knew it would be the pride of my whole page. |
| Assignment Four - Flash Poll: "Mulit-Poll" Choices I alomost killed myself trying to make this presentation. I had three days left to make this project when I finally started and had my work cut out for me. This project was supposed to analyze what zodiac sign you act like the most, but with so many different variables that would have taken me a lot more time than I had. So instead I changed it to 'what is your element personality type?' and finished it in about two hours. I would have preffered to do the zodiac test instead, but for something I did on the fly this quiz is pretty cool. |
