I don't think I ever made a conscious decision to start making videos. The medium just chose me at a very young age. It's similar to walking; infants never decide to do it, but one day they just are, because it's the best way for them to get from point A to point B. And I've found that using video is the best way for me to express my ideas and visions to other people on a mass scale. Aside from reaching people through my work, I find that collaborating with other people is the most rewarding. When people seek you out to translate their ideas in to compelling moving images, you realize that they're aware of your ability to effectively reach people. They see that you have a love for what you do and return that love to you. I figure that that's why I've naturally gravitated towards music in so much of my work. Music is also a universal language, full of love, and when combined with video, it's only more powerful. I honestly can't say whether I'll continue with video or delve deeper into music, or both, but whatever the case, I know that I'll have a way to reach people. |
| Assignment One
- Personal Profile & Statement: The Media & Me Creating the hyperlinks for this assignment was a challenge for me because I chose to use a previously written artist's statement that described more abstract ideas and feelings as opposed to concrete objects, people, and places. I was forced, instead, to be a little more creative with my references and search criteria, searching the internet for ideas instead of actual things. Instead of searching for just one word (e.g. - basketball), I had to search with whole phrases which proved to be much more convoluted. How is a search engine supposed to understand my idea when it recognizes only the individual words? I was able to find some words easily by using wikipedia.org and dictionary.com, but I didn't want to use only reference sites for the whole statement. That would have made the references boring and much less communicative. I still want to try and find some more interesting websites to relate the ideas in my statement... |
