Hello, my name is Xiomara Cortez I am a sophomore at Skyline High School in Oakland, and the form of media I am exposed to the most is video, because since I can remember my big brother has always been on the computer trying to teach me what he known’s, even though many times I got lost and fustrated, because he always would tell me how important it is to learn. Another form of media I am exposed to is audio because in my family there isn’t a day were there isn’t music or at least a radio on with the news. The form of media I find most effective is Video because it something that mostly everyone is exposed to, for example in television they can advertise things, give the news about what’s going on around the world ,not only by audio but also video which is so much better than just seeing it or hearing it. Going into Tech class I didn’t know what to expect really, but in my head I know what I wanted to get out of it and that is to learn more about computers and get familiar with programs that I normally would never use, I want to better my skills because computers are everywhere and is an essential part of society.

Assignment One - Personal Profile & Statement: Media & Me

This assignment was really cool because I had always wondered how hyperlinks worked I had also always been curious when it came to learn how it would feel to get hands on experience in creating a mini web page. Seeing how code works was really exciting to me because it was something I wasn’t use to seeing everyday which was cool because in every website you go there is code involved. I really learned a lot from this project not only using other programs, but I got to learn about myself. This project was challenging to me in a sense were I had to think about the media and how it really effects me which is hard because its not something I use to thinking about even though media is everywhere.

Assignment Two - Montage: What's In A Name?

Making a montage was really cool for me, even though in the beginning I didn’t  know what to put about myself ,but  after I put my first image down I kept on putting different images on. It was hard because I had never used the Adobe Photoshop before but I actually felt most accomplished when I actually uploaded it because that was the hardest thing because it wouldn’t show up online the first couple of times that I tried to upload it. All the pictures were meaningful to me because I think they all represented me and many people got to see a different side of me no one would normally see. For example the picture of the tool was something many people don’t know about me because I love to work on cars which are really weird but it’s a part of me. Another side that people don’t see that often is how religious I am. I have always been raised as a catholic which has shaped as person .Soccer, well I love soccer so that’s why the teddy bear in my montage says soccer rules. I love Oakland it’s were I have lived all my life born and raised there so that is a big part of me so that’s why it is represented in my montage .My heritage is also a big part of me because I am Hispanic and I am not ashamed of showing it because when I get older I want to show pride to my country and represent them well because there isn’t enough people representing them well. My question marks were suppose to represent my curiosity and how much I love to ask questions ,and also to show how I get lost sometimes .Same goes with the sign that says Cortez explores my last name is know as an explorers last name which I think applies to me. I have a tiger up there because I love animals and they are so great a tiger because they have power and are respected by everyone. Family guide is a show I love because it’s funny and I love to laugh, it makes you live longer you know. My name is put up there specifically in a mysterious way to show how many people really don’t know about beginning with my first name which is really long no one really knows that I also have two last names which again people don’t know that’s why there are dots after my first and last name and a question mark as well just to show a sense of mystery.

Assignment Three - Flash Presentation: What's In A Word?

The what’s in a word project was really strange at first because for me because I was like how many definitions of diversity are there and how they are usually used ,I was like wow I got an easy word man was I  wrong it was hard I didn’t even know where to begin. I got a lot out of this project because I got to learn more about an every day thing like the word diversity and about how it is used everyday differently by everyone.

Assignment Four - Flash Poll: "Mulit-Poll" Choices

When this assignment was presented to me I was like what I am going to do. I wasn’t   even done with the last assignment. Overall my quiz is the project I am most proud of because it was the hardest for me but I finished in one day, it doesn’t look that great but you know what, I am very proud that it at least works. The problems I had were that I didn’t I couldn’t get it online to tell you the truth if it wasn’t for Mr.Trever and Mr. Simon I don’t know what I would have done not only for this assignment but for many of the other ones. The ways I got my problems resolve was by getting the teacher help because the computer didn’t like me nothing wanted to work at all. Overall my experience with this project was very stressful but rewarding because it FINALLY WORKS!!!!!!!!!
